Blogoversary Time!

This is such a freaky post to write. Firstly, because I'm posting on a Tuesday and I don't really do that anymore. Secondly, because seriously, it feels weird to have been blogging for a whole year and to not even be the tiniest bit bored of it. I love blogging. I love my blog. Oh dear, I feel a soppy post coming on.

Actually, I have no idea how I should mark this milestone. So I'm just going to pick out some highlights.

These are some of my favourite things that have happened over the last year:
  • Reading Perfect Chemistry and finding out that my favourite book was a ROMANCE and the ensuing obsession with one Mexican badass. Let it be known that I did not read contemporary romances before I became a blogger (unless they were in some way related to fantasy or the paranormal).
  • Writing my review of Swoon (the Marmite book) and the still ongoing debate between the haters and the lovers. Tastes are a bizarre and fascinating thing!
  • Interviewing Ebony McKenna in person for Egmont Books. That was an absolute privilege!
  • The explosion of angel books that is happening in the YA world. For an angel fanatic this is like growing your own set of wings and waking up to look in the mirror and find out you have the prettiest halo this side of Heaven.
  • Adding these amazing writers to my list of favourites authors: Keren David, Gillian Phillip, Jaclyn Moriarty, Tabitha Suzuma
  • Making some wonderful online friends and then meeting them and finding out they are even more amazing and fun than I could have ever possibly imagined. Sammee, Lauren, Lynsey, Jo, Sophie, Jessica, Liz, Jenny and Carla, I am looking at you. Oh and I must not forget our 2011 debut authors Cat Clarke and Kaz Mahoney.
  • Making international online friends and learning about books that I might not ever have heard of. I adore Christina, Irena, Audrey and Juju! Thanks you guys!
  • The constant encouragment from writers (published or otherwise) to keep writing and be proud of it.
  • Being able to rave about the great books I've been reading.
  • But my absolute favourite thing that has happened because of blogging has to be meeting Caroline from Portrait of a Woman and the friendship that we share. Caroline (this is exceedingly soppy but hey) thanks for the brownies, the laughs and all the writing talk which as you know is often encrypted but you listen and share just the same.
So I wonder what the next year of blogging will bring?

And now, for one day only, I am opening up the floor. Do you have a burning question you wish to ask The Bookette? Now is your chance! Maybe you've just started a blog and you need some advice...ask away. Maybe you have a secret desire to know whether I am a morning or an evening person...
I don't know! But people do wonder weird things. I know this because I do. So if you do have a question, leave it in the comments and unless it is something downright stalkerish, I will answer.

Happy First Blogoversary to The Bookette. (Oh yeah, that's me!) I love you guys!

Happy blogoversary! I really hope I spelt that right ... :/ (I completely forgot mine. Then again, I think I was out of the country at the time ...

Also, your review the Clockwork Angel - pure win.

My question is (as a fellow school librarian), which book or author do you find yourself recommanding the most to your students?

Happy Blogoversary! You've done a lot of great things over this year, hope there will be many more! :D I'm still a ways to go before celebrating my blog's first blogoversary. I missed its 1-month blogoversary, but IMO that's not such a huge achievement.

I have exactly 7 questions to ask you. Haha. Any excuse to get someone to comment...

7 Questions

Better than Alex Fuentes? *eyebrows wiggling*
LOL
Beckkkyyy congrats on the Blogoversary!!
You and your blog are amazing, and the fact that you answered my email all these months ago to give me advice on blogging just proves that :)
You are the best thing that came with having a blog, just so you know :)

My question would be:
Did you get a ticket for the Pratchett event? I didn't and it's too late but I'll go to the Chiswick one, want me to take a ticket for you? :)
Talk soon!

Happy blogoversary dude!! Here's to the next one :)

Book Bug, awww ... you have been with me the whole way. I've missed you this summer. It is good to see you back. Thanks... Clockwork Angel is magic.

Library Mice, ah, great question! It depends very much on the age of the child. Many of my students love funny books. Year 4 in particular have a thing for Dav Pilkey. So I try to recommend lots of alternatives. I recommend Lousi Sachar all the time. When I return to work, I will be recommending Time Riders left, right and centre. I read it at the start of the holidays and I know it will prove to be very popular with fans of Percy Jackson.

Cass, I will hop on over and answer them for you!

Caroline, LOL! You are hilarious. I just adore you and your little robot earrings LOL. Yikes. I have never read Terry Prachett (well more than a few pages anyway) but I will tweet you.

Jenny, thank you!

Becky, yay, happy blogoversary!!! It's so good that you still love to blog and I hope you will for a long, long time. I agree, the explosion of angel books is a real blessing, I love angels too.

I do have two questions. Since you have a fascination for angels, do you keep any angel objects in your house, like statuettes, posters, something like that? And, which book have you re-read for the greatest number of times so far?

Keren David said...

Happy blog-versary! On behalf of all needy writers everywhere, thank you for the time and trouble you take reading and reviewing - and for your thoughtful and insightful reviews. Long may The Bookette prosper..

Becky said...

Irena, hmmm... I wish I did own more angel objects. I think a book mark is as far as it goes. I would very much like to buy a piece of art with some sort of angel motif. I am on the constant look out. I want it for my study which is where I do all my blogging.
The books that I have re-read the most times are easily Harry Potter. All of them, many times. I expect Perfect Chemistry will surpass that sooner or later. I have also read Pride and Prejudice many times. And To Kill A Mockingbird. (Great questions).

Keren, awww... thanks! You make me feel so appreciated. Long may you continue to write books for us to enjoy.

Liz said...

Wahoo! Huge congrats on your blogoversary - may there be many more.

Gina, thanks and I have to say me too. I love reading so much.

Happy Blogoversary, Becky! Wow, it's been a year already? It's gone so quick! Thanks so much for mentioning me, it's been great meeting you, too! You and your blog are just wonderful!

My question to you would be... out of all the books you've read, which book's characters do you wish were real so you could hang with? (HANG WITH! Not do bad things to! Put Alex Fuentes DOWN! ;))

Christina/Book Addict said...

Happy Blogoversary! Yay! Thanks for the shout out. You are definitely one of my favorite blogger friends and I love that we have the same taste in books! I'm such a huge fan of your blog--so, congrats and enjoy your blogoversary- you deserve it. :)

Becky said...

Sammee, thanks. (This year feels like it has been the quickest yet).

Jesse, thank you!

Jo, thanks. You are too lovely. Ooh, this is a tough and excellent question. Right now, (because I completely adored Immortal Beloved) I would chose to hang out with Nastasya. She is 449 years old and has one hell of an attitude. I would love the immortals to be real. My review of this amazing book will be up soon. I've written it but I want to let the book sink in a bit more before I publish the final draft.

Christina, thank you hun! I sharing my reading experiences with you. Our tastes are so similar :-)

Happy Blogoversary! Have you seriously only been blogging for a year? I thought it was longer than that...

Happy blogoversary and many more!!
It's a great blog I've been recommending it.
I agree about TimeRiders, it's great fun.

Lauren said...

Happy Blogoversary Becky! I've loved reading your posts this last year and you're one of the people who enriches my own blogging experience too.

Questions... hmmm. Okay here goes. If Spiderman and Alex (from Perfect Chemistry, obviously) were entrants in a 'heart-throb of the year' contest and you were the judge, who would win?

Happy Blogoversary, Becky!

My unicorn (still a tender foal in the blogosphere) also sends some glitter and greetings!

Happy Blogoversary, my dear!

My question would totally be 'Chocolate or cheese?' under normal circumstances, but today it is...

How well do you think you would fare in the Hunger Games?

Splendibird said...

Yay you! I always enjoy your posts, although I don't always have time to comment, and look forward to reading many, many more over year two!

Awesome - congrats a whole year. Plus your blog is awesome.
The whole UK book blogging community is so lovely, I am grateful to be a part of it.

Dwayne said...

Happy Blogoversary Becky! You're awesome, you know that? (Well of course you do) :D Keep rocking!

Becky said...

Steph, hi! Thank you!

Sophie, I know it feels like I am one of the oldies, doesn't it?!

Linda, thank you. It is great to hear that my blog is worth recommending. I'm flattered.

Lauren, this is such a hard question. Heart throb of the year... Spidey is so good inside, you know? With great power comes great responsiblity. But we are talking heart throb's here. And cuteness does not really equate to heartthrobness and so the winner is Alex. Let's face it: he is Mexican, he is a badass, he speaks very sexy Spanish and he rides a motorbike. Definitely the defining features of a heartthrob. He does (I admit) lack a special power but he makes up for it with his passion.

Darren, thank you!

Katherine, thanks and may your unicorn continue to blossom in the world of blogging.

Cat, ah yes you know my answer to the first question. So ... the Hunger Games ... honestly I think I wouldn't last more than a minute. I am the clumsiest person I know. I'd probably trip over my own two feet, hit my head and that would be it. I'd probably lie there waiting to be eaten by raging wolves or something. I am a certfiable wimp.

Splendibird, thanks. I love your posts too.

Luisa... awww... thank you for making all the UK peeps so welcome.

Em, I'm a heart on my sleeve kinda girl. Thanks!

Emma, there is definitely something very special about the UK book blog scene. Everyone is super friendly. I hope I get to know you better as the year goes by.

Dwayne, LOL. Moi? Awesome? Of course, I have a blog. Everyone who has a blog is awesome. ;-) Thanks.

Re: the Alex vs Spidey question, I like your reasoning. Badass beats cuteness any day!
