In My Mailbox #22

This meme is hosted by the awesome Story Siren and she was inspired by Pop Culture Junkie.

All summaries are from the monopolising giant Amazon.

My mailbox is postively brimming over with the most amazing books this week. I feel like I've had Christmas all over again. So without further squealing, here is what came my way:

For review:

Extras by Scott Westerfield

Thanks to Simon & Schuster UK for sending me this and completing my collection. I really need to get on and review this series for them.

Almost True by Keren David

Woo hoo! *Dances wildly* I cannot wait to read this book. The UK release is scheduled for September 2nd. You won't be seeing my review until much closer to the release date but I can promise you I will be reading this book very soon. Don't forget to enter my contest to win the first book When I Was Joe.

Here is the summary of Almost True:
Ruthless killers are still hunting Ty so the police move him and his mum to a quiet seaside town. But a horrific attack and a bullet meant for Ty prove that he s not safe yet. On the road again, Ty s in hiding with complete strangers . . . who seem to know a lot about him. Meanwhile he s desperate to see his girlfriend Claire, and terrified that she may betray him. Ty can't trust his own judgement and he is making dangerous decisions that could deliver him straight to the gangsters. A thrilling sequel to When I Was Joe, shot through with drama and suspense.

The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams

Thanks again to Simon & Schuster UK - this one is out here in August. Very impressed that they are sending me books this early. It almost guarantees that they'll get a review on time. Also, love the premise.

Thirteen-year-old Kyra has grown up in an isolated community without questioning the fact that her father has three wives and she has twenty brothers and sisters. That is, without questioning them much - if you don't count her secret visits to the Mobile Library on Wheels to read forbidden books, or her meetings with Joshua, the boy she hopes to choose for herself instead of having a man chosen for her. But when the Prophet decrees that she must marry her sixty-year-old uncle - who already has six wives - Kyra must make a desperate choice in the face of violence and her own fears of losing her family forever.

Titus and Atreus by Meridi Myers

Thanks to Meridi for asking me to review this book and for saying she doesn't mind if it takes me a good long while to get to it. Something about the premise really appeals to me, can you guess what it is?

Grief-stricken by the loss of his parents, Titus Attwater is convinced his life will never improve. His older sister ignores his calls, his grades in school have plummeted, and his house, once a place of warmth and security, is now lonely, cold, and alien. But when a young man appears one night in Titus's house, claiming he came in upstairs through the full-length mirror, Titus's life gets turned upside-down. For, as Titus soon discovers, this intruder is not from Earth. Against his will, Titus is kidnapped and taken to another world, a place like Earth but markedly different. It is here where he will befriend angels, face assassins, and help a young prince unravel a prophecy that proves much darker and more twisted than any of them had imagined.

Bought:

From the second hand book store -

Witch Child by Celia Rees

Life on the Refrigerator Door by Alice Kuipers
(I've heard nothing but amazing things about this book so when I saw it, I thought, why not?!

From Amazon (that giant far-reaching machine again) -

The Body Finder by Kimberley Derting

This is one of my most anticipated reads of 2010. I really hope it meets my expectations!

I Am The Great Horse by Katherine Roberts

I hear that Katherine's latest book is outstanding so I cannot wait to read it!

From the moment the battle-scarred horse Bucephalas, allows a prince and a runaway girl to sit on his back, he is bound to them for ever. The prince is the young Alexander, who he proudly carries into battle, blazing a trail to the very edge of the world in his master's search for glory and adventure. The girl, Charm, is a lowly stable girl, who brushes away the ghosts Bucephalas sees and forgives his arrogant ways. But unlike the golden Alexander, Charm has darker reasons to stay by his side. Through the eyes of the horse, history, mystery and adventure unfold.

Borrowed from the town library:

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz (For the staff book group)
Lord of Misrule (Morganville Vampires Book 5) by Rachel Caine

Received:

A signed first edition of Song Quest from Katherine! Yes, I did hyperventilate when I received her email thanking me for my "Get Song Quest Back in Print Campaign" and asking if she could send me this.

Not only is Katherine Roberts an amazing writer of the highest order, she is also the most lovely person. Thanks so much for this gift Katherine!

Since my computer tried to commit suicide, I will have to write this again. Grrs, anyway, awesome books. My eyes literally popped out my head, bounced against the screen (possible reason for computers attempted death?) and returned to my eyeballs they are so amazing. Lord of Misrule and Witch Child are some of my fave books ever. Also, thanks for linking me. I love it when people do that.
