Do you ever have a week where you can't work out what you should be doing with your time? That is me this week. There are so many things that I want to get on with and it is really difficult to decide which should take priority.
Anyway, these are the books that I got this week. Isn't it weird and slightly disconcerting that the covers are adorned by white girls with brownish hair?
Bought:
Grave Secret by Charlaine Harris
I bought this from the Watersones team who organised the signing. I wish I could just drop everything and read this series to the end. I have still only read the first book.
When she was 15, Harper Connelly was struck by a bolt of lightning, which left her with a spiderweb of red over her body, headaches, and episodes of weakness. Sometimes her right hand shakes. And she can find dead people. It's taken a while, but at last Harper's pretty happy with her life: she's making a living, using her unique talent to help people, and she's got a lover - her stepbrother Tolliver. That creeps some people out, but though they grew up together, and got each other through the real bad times - their parents' drug-use, the abuse, the disappearance of Harper's elder sister Cameron - they're not blood relatives. Then Tolliver's dad arrives on the scene, seeking forgiveness for the sins of their youth, and the police get a tip-off that after all these years, Cameron's been spotted in a mall. With all this going on Harper realises life is getting a little complicated, but she doesn't expect those complications to include Tolliver getting shot, or watching a cop die taking a bullet for her. Harper can find dead people, but now it's clear someone wants her dead ...
For review:
Ondine by Ebony McKenna (release date 5th April UK)
Yay! I now have a finished copy. My huge thanks go to the lovely Alistair @ Egmont Books. I'm going to re-read this in the next couple of weeks. It is 21 days until Ondine hits the shelves and I have it on good authority that the wonderful Ebony is going to be visiting the UK to launch the book. Exciting!
This is a brilliantly witty fairy tale with a mystery that is as surreal as it is sinister. One girl. One boy. One spell to be broken. Ondine de Groot is a normal fifteen-year-old who lives with her family in the European country of Brugel. She has a pet ferret called Shambles. But Shambles is no ordinary ferret...He's Hamish McPhee, a boy cursed by a witch. A witch who happens to be related to Ondine. When Shambles turns back into Hamish temporarily, Ondine knows that she has to help him break the spell. He is the most gorgeous boy she has ever met and her one true love! He just can't remain a ferret forever. Can he?
Captivate by Carrie Jones (release date 5th April UK)
Thank you very much Bloomsbury. I am so looking forward to reading this.
Zara and her friends knew they hadn't solved the pixie problem for good. Far from it. The king's needs grow deeper every day he's stuck in captivity, while his control over his people becomes weaker. It's made him vulnerable. And now there's a new king in town. A turf war is imminent. The new pixie king is moving in quickly. He swears that he and Zara are destined to be together, that he's one of the good guys. Zara isn't so sure. Despite herself, she wants to trust the new king, but there's a lot more than her relationship with boyfriend Nick at stake. It's her life - and his.
The Fool's Girl by Celia Rees (release date 5th April UK)
Can you see my little happy dance for this book? I am so excited to have a finished copy. It is absolutely beautiful in hardback. Another huge thank you to Bloomsbury UK. I'm thinking this book is going to be a dream for historical YA fans.
Violetta and Feste have come to London to rescue the holy relics taken from the church in Illyria by the evil Malvolio. Their journey has been long and their adventures many, but it is not until they meet the playwright William Shakespeare that they get to tell the entire story from beginning to end! But where will this remarkable tale ultimately lead Violetta and her companion? And will they manage to save themselves, and the relics from the very evil intentions of Malvolio?
And that is all my books.
Happy reading everyone!

Ooh, I love the Charlaine Harris cover! I should finish up her Sookie series and get into her other books. And Celia Rees' book looks good too.
Happy reading!
I got the two books on the bottom row as well! I love the Charlaine Harris covers, too. And I so want to read Ondine!
Oooh, another person who got Fool's Girl, lucky you! I'm really looking forward to that one!
Interesting looking books. I especially like the sound of The Fool's Girl.
Those all look great. You've also reminded me I really want to get a review for Ondine up by the week it comes out. (I've been making sacrifices to keep up with the review books recently). Love the sound of The Fool's Girl too.
Lauren, I really admire you for keeping up with your review books. I don't know how you do it. I'm doing a whole pick and choose thing right now which is probably a bit selfish but I will go crazy otherwise.
Lovely books! And all with a woman's face on the cover. :) I hope you enjoy them all - I'm really looking forward to hearing some thoughts on all of those. (Though I remember your Ondine review!)
I can't WAIT to read the Fool's Girl. Happy reading!
I agree The Fool's Girl looks amazing, can't wait to read that one. Hope you enjoy all these - they all look good.
I've never read Charlaine's other series, but maybe one day, eh? I've heard good things, from you and some other people. I hope you get to finish the series one day.
I can truly understand why you did a happy dance! :) Enjoy the books you got.

Charlaine Harris!
I can't wait for your review of Captivate. :]
Most excited for your review on The Fool's Girl :) I didn't like NEED much so I'm not eager to read Captivate, but maybe you'd like it and sway me towards reading it :D Happy reading!
Nice books. I am reading the series about Harper and have one waiting for my on my Kindle. I don't like them as much as the Sookie books because they lack the lightness and humor that I find in Sookie's stories.
I have Captivate on my TBR pile too. I read Need but didn't love it so much that I had to read Captivate as soon as I got it. I will be looking for your review to, hopefully, give me incentive to read Captivate.
Ondine sounds really good. I went to Amazon to pre-order only to find out that I couldn't and have to be emailed when ordering is possible.
Happy reading!
Great Books. Ondine sounds amazing!!! I never heard of it before but it sounds liek a winner!!! Happy Reading!!!

Hello Becky,
ooooh, I wonder what Alistair at Egmont has in store for me! I can't wait to get to London and have some fun.
It will only be a short visit - just sneaking over for a week and then back to Australia for some promotions here. I am hoping to have a longer tour next year when book 2 comes out.
OOOOh, did I just give away a secret that there will be an Ondine sequel? Shhhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone. LOL!
Thank you everyone for saying such lovely things about Ondine. I have worked with some amazing people at Egmont who have all worked very hard to make the book shine.
