Stuff I want you to know about...

This is one of those mixture posts where I tell you about a few random things!

London (or nearby) YA people!
Firstly, I want YA bloggers living in or around London (or those willing to travel) to hop on over to Once Upon A Book Case. Jo has been picking my frazzled brain about a bloggers meet up. I decided I'm not going to the General Book Bloggers one. I don't want to be going home from London late at night. Hey people, safety first! So anyway she has more info on her post and some YA authors have shown an interest so you really should check it out HERE. Come on! Surely you want to know if I'm secretly a mutant bird kid posing as a librarian. This will be your opportunity to find out.

Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder
Next week is a hugely big week for me. It is book week at my school and my chance to wow everyone with my super-librarianess. (Or at least enthuse everyone about books for a whole week). So I'm actually going to be crazy busy and probably not going to have much free time. I don't think I'll have time to read as many posts and leave comments. What I will be doing at the end of the week is telling you all about my week's highlights. And just maybe I'll be having a special contest to share the bookish love with you all too. I'll miss you guys but I will schedule a few posts so you won't know I'm gone. If anyone is interested in the work that is involved in planning a book week, leave me a comment and I'll do a post about that too. I guess you'll only be interested if you're thinking about becoming a school librarian.

Welcome to some UK YA Newbies!
It is always nice to have new bloggers join our community. I want to draw your attention to some new UK people and to give a huge Bookette wave to these newbies! "Hi guys! If you ever have a question, don't be afraid to ask! I once got an email telling me that I'm actually really nice. I don't know why this person thought I would not be." If you haven't checked out these blogs, please do:

Ryan @ Empire of Books
Rhiana @ Rhiana Reads
Kirsty @ The Book Mogul
Iman @ Overbooked
Sarah @ Sarah's Reviews

The Online Book Bloggers Conference
I finally signed up for it. Yes, I paid about £13.50 and if I learn one thing I'll be happy. Of course, I'll share that one thing with you. I am in no way endorsing this thing. I am just taking a chance on it. Here is the link again if you're interested: http://www.romanceinthebackseat.com/bbpcon.html If you have a question that relates to international blogging specifically, let me know. I will pass on your query on to the organiser.

And finally, a question!
What do you think of The Bookette visually? I'm thinking I might save up and get a proper design for the blog. Any recommedations for blog designers and a rough estimate of cost? Or do you love me just the way I am LOL?

I'll miss you guys next week but I'll still be here for IMM. Do not despair!

It's so sweet of you to post about new bloggers you've found! This is such a fun post! :)

O if you have a book blogging London meet-up please do take pictures and share :)

Definitely take pictures! Sounds fun and good luck at work with your book week. I know how crazy it gets when we have our book fair. It's definitely fun though- I'm sure you'll be great!
I really like your blog from a visual perspective. I thought a professional designed it. *Sigh*....I would love a professional to do mine!

Yay! Newbies! Love newbies. I remember being so nervous when I started my blog...as, the good old days, as my slightly more insane friends than I am freinds would say. I don't think I'll be going to the book blogger meet up :(. As for the blog changes, I think the bookette looks fine and really proffesional. I recently re-did my banner and felt the same nerve (if thats what your feeling. thats what I was feeling, but then again, I'm wierd.) about it.

I shall miss you wilse you are gone. I am jealous about how you can actually get paid to have fun in a library all day, enthusing books awesomeness!

This post was fuuuun. this comment was loooooong.

Great post to read! Hope you have fun on your biug book week next week!! I like your layout--I was actually thinking about using it once lol but my layout was made by Katie at Sophistikatied Reviews and I think she did an amazing job. I didn't need to pay either so maybe you could ask but obviously it is SO not my place to say. Anyways, have a nice weekend :)

Book week sounds fun. Actually I think I might love to be a school librarian, so I'm way interested.

Re: the blog redesign thing, I've been thinking about getting a redesign myself. I do love the style of your blog, but a change is always fun.

Thanks so much for mentioning me & the other new UK bloggers! I think I'm already followers of most of them but I'll go and check out the ones that I haven't :o)

I'm really keen on the idea of a UK meet up :o) Should be a lot of fun!!

Sounds like you're going to have a crazy busy week - I hope you have a great time though. I'll be interested to read all about what you got up to when you do your round up at the end of the week.

Woah Book Week = Fun times

I don't think I'd be able to attend the London meet-up, but I'd love to see some pics. :)
Good luck next week - let us know how it all went!
Those are some awesome newbies! :D
As for the blog redesign, it's up to you. Your layout looks lovely as it is, but if you'd like to have a custom book-related one, then I'd say it's worth spending money on. Mine was done by Parajunkee/Rachel and I paid something over $100 for it (that was like the middle package), which is really not much for everything she did and absolutely worth it. I said the same thing about the custom domain - if you're very serious about blogging, then I think it's a reasonable investment. :)

Thanks for the mention Becky! I have an award for you here http://tinyurl.com/ybfrnr5

My daughter brought her Book Voucher home today, but a bit miffed as the school doesn't seem to be doing anything to mark World Book Day (she's in infants) though they are having a book week at the end of March. Good luck next week, sounds busy but fun.

Thank you for mentioning me in your blog. I always try to do something in my store where I work to mark World Book Day but sometimes a bit hard with people off work. :)

I love your site right now, but I'm sure I'd love it if it changed, too!

It was great to read your fun-packed post, and good luck for next week! I'm busy with World Book Day events too, but from the other side (!) as I'll be doing author visits, including one to a school library! I'd love to hear all about things from your side!

Have a wonderful week!

Jo said...

Aww, I'll miss you while you're away next week! Have a great time though, and I would be really interested in your end post, but also in a post about the preparations for it!

Thanks for linking to my London meet up post! :D And it's also really great of you to mention new UK bloggers!

I like your layout, it's really cool! The layouts I use on both my blogs are freebies from Simply Fabulous Blogger Templates, yet you can also get custom made ones too. I love her layouts, I think they're all gorgeous, but I can't talk about a price.

Becky said...

So it is decided. There will be a "How to plan a book week" post for Lauren and Jo.

I still haven't worked out if I want to change the look of The Bookette. I'll have to think on it a bit longer.

Luisa, hope your author talks go well. I'm sure you'll get a real reading buzz going.

And of course, if the London meet up happens I'll let you know all about it. I love you guys!

Have fun with the book things at your school! We just finished up I Love to Read Month and it was really fun!

I've been reading through your blog the past couple of days, and just followed today. Personally, I think your blog is perfect as it is! I think it's really organized, and despite the amount of content, it does not look cluttered at all. This is one of those book blogs that I find are not only easy on the eyes, but very easy to navigate and read. I try to keep my blog neat and organized like this. So no, I don't really think it's necessary to change it, but if you feel like changing it, it's all up to you too! :)

Becky said...

Hi Jillian, welcome! Thanks for following and commenting! Glad to hear that the format of The Bookette is easy to read. After hearing how everyone likes the style as it is now, I'm quite reluctant to change. I'm going to stick with things as they are at least for now. Thanks again for your input.
