In My Mailbox #13

This meme is hosted by Kristi, The Story Siren and was inspired by Alea, Pop Culture Junkie. Every Sunday we share the books that we have bought, loaned or been sent for review.

I have one book in my mailbox this week and I'm so excited by this because this book isn't due to hit the shelves until January 7th.

Bought:
When I Was Joe by Keren David

Description from Waterstones.com:
When Ty witnesses a stabbing, his own life is in danger from the criminals he's named, and he and his mum have to go into police protection. Ty has a new name, a new look and a cool new image -- life as Joe is good, especially when he gets talent spotted as a potential athletics star, special training from an attractive local celebrity and a lot of female attention. But his mum can't cope with her new life, and the gangsters will stop at nothing to flush them from hiding. Joe's cracking under extreme pressure, and then he meets a girl with dark secrets of her own.

Me again:
Keren David is a 2010 debut UK author and I'm reading this as part of The Story Siren's Debut Author Challenge. As you'll probably know, realism isn't my comfort zone but I think this book sounds amazing. This challenge is certainly getting me to broaden my reading horizons which can only be a good thing. Keren has a great blog. The link is here.

The list of UK Debut authors that I am compiling can be found here.

hmmm, this book seems like it would be really really interesting, but I have really really strong ideas on the whole knife crime dilema. I think I want to know if it deals with it in the correct way, because if its not a true reflection of how knife crime can affect people then I dont think I want to read this. Will wait for your review to decide whether to add this to my pile :-)

Don't you love it when books arrive early?! Always good. I'm not sure how I feel about reading this one. I think it has the potential to be incredibly powerful, but like you, realism isn't exactly my comfort zone. I'll definitely look out for your review, I'm sure that will help me decide.
