Signed Shiver giveaway and my afternoon at Maggie's signing

My first giveaway! It's international! Whoop!

As promised, I bought an extra copy of Shiver today and Maggie very kindly signed it!

And here it is! Sorry about the poor quality of the photo.

So how do you win this wonderful book?

Leave me a comment telling what's your favourite time of year and why. E.g. I love those first autumnal mornings where the air is crisp and the sun shines brightly. It reminds me of going back to school after the long summer holiday. (I loved school. I'm a nerd!)

Be a follower of my blog.

Put your email address in your comment.

That's all you have to do. I'll use random.org to select a winner. You have until Thursday 29th October to enter.

The signing:
It was amazing. Maggie was so animated. She was hilarious. She described how the idea for Shiver came about: she was trying to enter a short story competition and the subject had to be werewolves. She talked about the fact that the parts of the book told from Sam's perspective were more fun to write than Grace. But that Grace always kept the plot moving along because she is the type of character that just gets on with things.

She also took lots of questions. There were only about 20 people there so I felt that I could ask a couple of questions. I asked Maggie how she goes about writing and whether she set herself a wordcount to achieve each day. She said that she works more with scenes. So she writes "the bathroom scene" or the "sweet shop scene". She writes until she has completed the next scene. She said it only took four months to write Shiver and that she was only writing it on a Sunday afternoon because she was meant to be working on Ballad.

I also asked her if there were many differences between the UK and the US version of Shiver other than the cover. The main difference being the temperature. In the US version it's fahrenheit and in the UK we use celsius. Other than words like sidewalk being switched for pavement, the content is the same.

Maggie also told us that she was putting the finishing touches on the manuscript for Linger. It was safely locked away in her hotel room. As for the Shiver film, the rights have been optioned as I'm sure you know. This means that the film has a producer but as yet no director or screen play. So it will be a long time yet before we're all queuing up to see it on the big screen. The producer has 18 months to get the basics in place or Maggie will be able to sell the rights again.

So I guess I'll end my commentary there. I could make this post essay length but I think that'll put you off reading it. Feel free to ask me a question in the comments if there's something else you're interested in knowing about the book signing. Let me just end by saying there was one really sweet girl there. I think she may well be Maggie's biggest fan. She had baked her cookies and cupcakes from scratch because she knew Maggie was allergic to preservatives. Bless her. Every author deserves such a devoted fan.

Happy reading!

Hey Beckuy,

Thanks so much for writing all this up! It sounds (and looks) like you had a fantastic day! :) Maggie looks lovely too!

I'd like to enter your giveaway please - can't not really, can I?!

So.. my favourite time of year is winter. I hate the heat and sun, so winter is perfect. It's cold and dark (perhaps this is why people at work think I'm a vampire?), and I love snuggling down in bed with a good book.

Great contest. It looks like you had a good time at the signing too.
My favourite time of year would be winter because it's cold and wet which means I get to stay inside and read books.

Even though I love autumnal mornings, I would think that winter is my favorite time of the year because living in one of the hottest places on Earth gets to you. Lol. If I were anywhere else, however, I would have to say it was autumn, mostly because I just love the breeze.

Count me in!

I love autumn days, especially in October, when the leaves are all changing but haven't fallen yet and the mornings are cool but not frigid. I love hoodie weather, when you need a sweatshirt but not a coat, and when the windows are all dewy in the morning but they don't need to be scraped.

Looks like you have a great day!

Excellent post! I'm excited for the Shiver movie when it eventually comes out and I think Linger will be great as well!

My favorite time of year is summer. Nothing better then a warm summer day (but not to warm!), sitting poolside with a great book =) I'd love to live in a bathing suit 24/7/365 and reading on the beach is a plus as well! I also enjoy how it can be warm during the day but cool at night so I can just slip on a warm hoodie.

Aaahh!!! I'm so jealous that you got to meet with Maggie! I'm glad you had a good time though!

My favorite time of the year is fall. I love the color of the trees when the leaves change and I love that I can wear anything from a T-shirt and shorts to a hoodie and sweats throughout the season. Not to mention I'm a huge fan of Halloween!

Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

Sounds like you had an AWESOME time at the contest!
I LOVE winter (in places where there is actually a real winter, which would not be where I am now), but I think my favorite season is fall. It always feels just so crisp and magical, and the air is just so breathable!
Thanks for this opportunity!

I am such a moron, I completely forgot about the signing! Ugh! I'm not sure if I would have been able to go anyway, money is a problem, but forgetting about it altogether! I'm an idiot!

So glad you had an awesome time!

My favourite time of year is summer. I don't know what it is, but wheneveryone else is warm, I'm always cold, so Summer will always be best because I get to feel warm. I don't mind feeling uncomfortably hot. I'd rather that than uncomfortably cold! I love the heat!

I follow you! :)

Hey everyone, I'm really enjoying reading about your favourite time of year. I'm smiling as I write this. I did have a great day yesterday and now I'm off work for two weeks so I feel good.

Jo ~ shame you couldn't be there. It would have been so nice to meet another blogger. It cost me £15.20 to get the train to Wansted. £3.00 to park at the station and of course the cost of buying a copy of Shiver for the contest and a copy of Lament for myself. It was an expensive trip. I just tell myself I don't get to do these things too much so I should make the most of it when I can. But there is the whole Christmas thing in the back of my mind.

JuJu ~ Just wanted to confirm that this giveaway is international! I wanted to give all my faithful followers a chance to enter. You wonderful people have made becoming a blogger one of the highlights of this year for me.

Happy entering!

My favourite season is fall. I love the cooling down from summer, the temperatures are just right, needing just a cardigan or light jacket, the smell in the air and the leaves oh the leaves turning all sorts of beautiful reds, yellows, oranges. I love fall.

Well, I live in a desert so we only have 2 seasons--hot and hotter--LOL..So I will say that I love winter only because the temp drops to around 70 degrees for us! We still haven't had any rain and it is really hot today at 90 degrees!

Would love to win a copy since authors never want to bother coming to our heat! I don't blame them!

Well, I used to live in Texas where it was pretty much always summer. There was never really any change. Now that I live in Colorado, I love the winter! I love the snow and just being able to bundle up and play in it. =]

Great contest... I'm holding one over at my blog too that you should check out! :)

Autumn is my favorite season as well. I love the colors as the leaves change ... I've always been a fan of leaves. I have A LOT of jewelry with leaf accents. I also love the "crisp" autumn air... I recently moved to a bigger city for university, and autumn reminds me of home (a small town out in the country). I also started dating my boyfriend in autumn 4 years ago... so I always fall in love with him all over again at this time of year! :)

Hmm, my favorite time of year is summer. (Which lasts like half the year here in Florida) I especially love the rare times when its really sunny with a clear sky but no humidity. I really dont like being cold, which anything below 70-ish is way to cold for me =P

I love summertime-even though I live deep south and it gets blazing hot, I love to lay by the pool. There's nothing like that cold water when it's 100 degrees out.

Now following!

I love those first rainy days in winter when it gets really cloudy and pours like crazy. Mostly, because the next day there's a really awesome fog in the morning. I walk around on campus and it feels like I'm in some movie with a fog machine. Also cold, rainy, winter days are the best for snuggling up with a great book!

I'm going to go with Fall. I LOVE Halloween, there's the World Series, cross country season and swim season starts, we get a couple school breaks like Thanksgiving... Of course, after a while when it gets too cold for me, I'm back with summer being my favorite time of year. Its weird.

I love autumn and winter when the weather starts to change and it gets colder and you can start wearing scarves and gloves and bundle up in your coast and drink hot chocolate. I especially enjoy it where I live because during the cold months, in the morning, a thick fog will cover everything, giving the atmosphere a magical, ethereal appeal.

Thanks so much for the giveaway!
